Historical background

The locality was founded presumably in the 1930s under its former name — the 1st department of the Troitsky sovkhoz, created as part of the collectivization policy; the main activity was beet growing. Among the first residents were repressed people of various nationalities; initially, settlers lived in dugouts they built themselves, and later plank barracks appeared. By a decision of the Troitsky District Executive Committee dated 11 May 1960, the locality was given the name Zelyonaya Polyana settlement; later its status was changed to village. In 1963, the Zelenopolyansky selsoviet was established; in 1964, it was renamed from the Vershininsky selsoviet by a decision of the Altai Krai Executive Committee. As of 1 April 2026, the population is 627. A notable figure is Sergey Altukhov, a resident of Zelyonaya Polyana who died during the special military operation; in 2026, a memorial plaque was unveiled in his honour at the village school.

Living culture and memory

Residents observe national holidays of the Russian Federation and district celebrations. On 26 June 2022, the street festival "And from Our Window..." was held for the first time on the village's central square as part of the cultural events marathon "Kultpokhod": the programme included master classes, an exhibition of folk artisans, a fair-tasting of dishes prepared by the hostesses of each street, photo zones, and a theatrical concert programme featuring artists from the Zelenopolyansky House of Culture and the villages of Borovlyanka and Troitskoye. In 2017, Zelyonaya Polyana celebrated the village's birthday: the programme included a concert, a vocal and choral singing festival with groups from other villages of the district, and a disco. Local creative groups operate at the House of Culture. The prevalent religious tradition is Orthodoxy; the gastronomic culture is represented by Russian cuisine.

The project was carried out with a grant from the Russian Science Foundation No. 26-28-20225
