Historical background
The selo of Panfilovo is located in Kalman District, Altai Krai; it was founded in 1875 by settlers from Tula, Tambov, Penza, Ryazan, and other provinces after the 1861 reform. In 1893 it was mentioned as the village Novo-Panfilova of Shadrinsk Volost, Barnaul Uyezd; in 1911 as the selo Panfilovskoe with 205 households and a population of 1,494, where a church, a Ministry of Internal Affairs school, and a butter-making plant operated. In 1926 there were 390 households and 2,173 residents; a first-stage school, a reading hut, and a consumer society shop operated. In 1929 a commune headed by Semyon Dorokhov was formed; in 1931 it was reorganized into the kolkhozes Krasny Sveklovod and Stepan Razin. In 1918 Kolchak troops passed through the selo; at the end of 1919 many residents joined Mamontov’s partisan detachment, and the first communists—Yakov Kuznetsov, Semyon Dorokhov, Kuzma Kiryasov, and Yakov Abramov—and the first Komsomol member Pavel Chernikov led the struggle against Kolchak forces and kulaks. On 2 April 1957 the Lenin sovkhoz was organized on the base of the Kalmanskaya MTS; in 1972 it was divided, leaving the selos of Novoromanovo, Panfilovo, and Aleksandrovka. In the late 1990s a two-story school, a club, an office, a garage, livestock buildings, and a sawmill were built, and paving of Ryazanskaya Street began. As of 1 April 2026, the population was 238; according to the 2002 census, Russians made up 91%.
