Historical background
The selo of Novoromanovo is located in Kalman District, Altai Krai, and is part of the Novoromanovsky selsoviet; it was founded in 1914 in connection with the construction of the Altai Railway and its station. In 1915–1916 the first small houses appeared for construction workers; in 1916 brick production began for the station, water tower, and service buildings, and from 1918 settlers began arriving at the Kalmanka station from the selos of Buranovo, Kalistratikha, Panfilovo, and others. In 1925 residents sent authorized representatives Ivan Nikanorovich Posokhin and Ivan Romanovich Prokopev to Barnaul to request land; the head of the land department suggested naming the selo after Prokopev’s patronymic, Romanovo, but because such names already existed, the selo was named Novo-Romanovo. In 1926 the first village council was created, headed by Mikhail Fyodorovich Kukartsev; Ivan Nikanorovich Posokhin was the first postman. In 1957 the Lenin sovkhoz was organized with its central estate in the selo, including 26 settlements. In the 1960s one regiment of a higher military aviation school was quartered in Novoromanovo; the school was disbanded in 1999. The economy is based on agriculture, agricultural processing, and woodworking.

A church in honor of the Protection of the Most Holy Mother of God is being built in the selo; the rite of foundation took place on 4 October 2023 with the blessing of Bishop Roman of Rubtsovsk and Aleisk. Also, near the school and the memorial of glory, a demilitarized L-39 Albatros training combat aircraft is installed, preserved in memory of the aviation school quartered in the 1960s.
