Historical background

The settlement of Kubanka is located in Kalman District, Altai Krai; it began to form in the early 1930s. Earlier, on the bank of the Kalmanka River, there was a small settlement called Pankovo, where the Pankov brothers and relatives lived, engaged in private farming and owning a water mill. During collectivization a seed-growing sovkhoz was created here, and in 1935 the settlement was renamed Kubanka; in the Soviet period the Kubanka sovkhoz operated. During the war years residents contributed to home-front work, including making felt boots for the front; after the war the settlement developed actively. As of 1 April 2026, the population was 489.
