Historical background
The village was founded in 1908 during the mass resettlement of landless peasants from the southern provinces of Ukraine, the Volga region, and the Orenburg region. Until 1920, Halbstadt was the center of the German District of the West Siberian Krai, where processing historically developed: until the 1930s, the city-forming enterprise was a mill, in 1930 a machine and tractor station was organized, and in 1949 a mechanization school (now Vocational School No. 69) was established. After the re-establishment of the German National District in 1991, the village once again became the district center, which triggered large-scale construction with the support of Germany: an administration building was erected, new residential blocks were built, power grids and the water supply system were fully modernized, and a modern sports complex with a swimming pool was opened. Currently, Halbstadt, with a population of 1,867 people (587 households), has a secondary school in a new building, the "Raketa" kindergarten, a local hospital with a renovated polyclinic, a meat processing plant, and a modern flour milling line.

In Halbstadt, there is the Inter-Settlement Museum of the History of the German National District (founded in 2008, stores more than 2,600 exhibits), the district library, the District House of Culture, a children's music school, and the Orthodox Church of the Hieromartyr Dionysius the Areopagite, consecrated in 2013. The memorial heritage includes the Monument to the Victims of Political Repression (opened in 2008) and the Memorial of Military Glory to the soldiers of the Great Patriotic War. In 2025, a walking tour route with 10 information stands dedicated to preserving the cultural heritage of Russian Germans was created in the village. The architectural appearance of the center is complemented by the buildings of the State Treasury and the museum.
Natural surroundings
The territory is a slightly undulating, gently elevated plain with a general slope to the northwest, without rivers and lakes, where chestnut soils and southern chernozems are widespread. On unplowed areas, forb-grass dry steppe meadows have been preserved, birch, poplar, maple, feather grass, and wormwood grow, and the fauna is represented by rodents, red foxes, hares, sparrows, crows, magpies, starlings, rooks, titmice, and owls. In the village itself, there is a park, an arboretum, and a public square.

Living culture and memory
The village preserves the legend of setting up a decorated Maypole on the night before Trinity, as well as the historical tradition of P.A. Stolypin's visit in 1910. The District House of Culture hosts the festival-review "I am fascinated by this land...", the Sommerfest holiday, the Weihnachtsmarkt Christmas market, the Feast of the Three Kings, the Morgenstern contest, and the Day of Remembrance and Sorrow of Russian Germans. Halbstadt is home to the TAUTROPFE ensemble, the "Sibirskie Napevy" choir, and the "Exclusive" ensemble, and traditional German dishes such as strudels, rubelkuchen, krebels, and plimkhen are prepared at culinary marathons. Although the German language is preserved mainly in school classes, the tradition of bilingual signs is maintained in the village.
