Historical background

According to Wikipedia, the village was founded in 1627. In 1928, Yeltsovka comprised 355 households, with a predominantly Russian population; administratively, the village was the centre of the Yeltsovsky selsoviet in Bolshe-Rechensky District, Biysk Okrug, Siberian Krai. Reports on collectivization and grain procurement in 1929–1930 mention cases of resistance to the new authorities by part of the population. In the 1960s–1970s, rapid socio-economic development began: the district association "Selskhoztekhnika" with a production base, two sovkhozes ("Yeltsovsky" and "Pchelovod"), an oil factory, and a road repair and construction unit were established. In 1979, a bridge was built across the Yeltsovka River (previously, crossing was by ferry and boats); later, a republican asphalt road connecting Altai Krai with Kemerovo Oblast was laid. The village has the Yeltsovskaya Secondary General Education School, a post office, a rural house of culture, and the kindergarten "Yagodka"; peasant farms and cooperatives operate. Notable figures include Nikolai Konstantinovich Tokarev, head of a peasant farm, who led the kolkhoz "Zavety Ilyicha" in Yeltsovka for 13 years, created his own farm in 1996, and received the title of honorary citizen of Troitsky District in 2019; and Viktor Ivanovich Feldbush, founder of one of the first peasant farms in the district, awarded the title "Honoured Worker of the Agro-Industrial Complex of Russia."

Living culture and memory

Residents observe national holidays of the Russian Federation and district celebrations. The ecological festival "Dusha Salaira" (Soul of the Salair) is held in the village. In the past, Yeltsovka celebrated a "gathering day" on 7 November, when people from surrounding villages came and a fair was held; New Year and Christmas celebrations are also mentioned, for which pies, shanezhki (small open pies), kalachi (ring-shaped bread), kiseli (fruit jellies), and kulagi (baked grain dishes) were prepared. Local creative groups and clubs operate at the House of Culture. The prevalent religious tradition is Orthodoxy; the gastronomic culture is represented by Russian cuisine.
